Studio Papaya was founded by Johanna Lotz and Verena Deist. They met in early 2020 after both having gotten their degree in psychology and separately having had a similar first contact with clay. Johanna and Verena both decided to leave their assumed career path, fascinated by the versatility and freedom they experienced in working with clay.
The work in ceramics can be seen as a periodical process. From a lump of raw clay to a finished piece, many steps are passed. This fully manufactured process takes up to four weeks.
During the production phase, Verena and Johanna are focused mainly on throwing, trimming and firing their products.
After finishing a cycle of production, which takes up to 3 months, Studio Papaya will release their new collection and open its doors as well as the online shop with new products available.
To stay updated about future shop openings and our current work, you can follow their work on instagram.
Apart from the regular Shop updates, there is the option to visit Studio Papaya by appointment in Leipzig or contact via mail or Instagram.
In the last years, the Studio has evolved into an inviting space for all sorts of events – from regular workshops (both clay-related and non-clay-related), to concerts, readings, dinner parties and many other gatherings.
Our team has grown into a group of up to eight clay obsessed people supporting Verena and Johanna on a daily basis. We are excited to see where the journey will lead Studio Papaya.
Studio Papaya has previously worked with artists on collaborations and is open to do so in the future. Wholesale orders and tableware for restaurants are always an exciting project, so feel free to get in touch for your idea.
